Telecommunications Specialist Job Overview

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. Basic Requirements: Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. Other Education: Communications/electronics or automatic data processing training in technical institutes or business schools above the high school level or in Armed Forces schools that included advanced instruction in addition to basic courses, may be substituted for general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience Specialized Experience: Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology. Qualifying Experience: To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience conducting evaluations of telecommunications systems, projects, or programs to determine future expenditures, serving as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), managing telecommunications contracts ensuring project goals are accomplished. Reviews, analyzes and approves cost, develops technical specifications and accepts or rejects work products from contractors. Reviews and evaluates contract technical proposals for adequacy and compliance with Request for Proposals (RFP). Performs project management duties, when applicable, which includes responsibility for ensuring project goals are accomplished. Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume.
